A Review on Palm Treo 650 GSM Mobile Phone by Cell2Get

By Cell2Get Corp

The best thing about the current technology is that there are plenty of gadgets that you can avail of to help make everything easier. Among these are mobile phones, which make communicating very convenient. You can call someone wherever you are located as well as send messages. There are even some cell phones that let you gain access to the Internet. One of these phone models is the Palm Treo 650 GSM, which is equipped with the best features that you would want in all your gadgets.

Your All-in-one Phone

If you want to buy a mobile phone that comes with the most high-tech features, you might want to go for the Palm Treo 650. This phone has plenty of features that you will not be able to resist. It lets you access the web, wherein you can look into your e-mails even if you are not in front of your computer. With Palm Treo 650, you can hook up to Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL. The greatest benefit about having to access the Internet on your phone is that you get to research and look up information conveniently. Other than web access, Palm Treo 650 comes with other technological features such Bluetooth and an organizer. You can also use it as an MP3 player and digital camera. You can even stream and play videos in full color. The multimedia performance of the Palm Treo 650 is backed up with an Intel PXA270 processor technology.

Unlocking the Network Service of Your Palm Treo 650

At most times, mobile phones already come with a network service. Phones like these are locked to the network company. If you want to avail of the services of a certain network company, you can just buy a Palm Treo 650 from its Affiliate shops. But if you get tired of your network service and you are not satisfied, you can always choose to have your phone unlocked. This does not require complex procedures. There are several cell phone shops that let you transfer from one GSM service company to another.

Using Cell Phone Unlocking Hardware and Software

If you want to unlock the service of your Palm Treo 650, you can find unlocking codes online. There are plenty of websites that offer this type of information. When you have no idea, where to look for these codes, you can begin with search engines such as Yahoo and Google. On the other hand, you can use hardware or software applications that are designed specifically to unlock the network service of mobile phones. If you have a Palm Treo 650 GSM phone, you can avail of network service from companies like Cingular, T-Mobile, and AT&T.

Unlocked Palm Treo 650 GSM Phone

While there are mobile phones that are locked to a certain network service, there are also phones that let you choose services from different network companies. You can purchase a brand new Palm Treo 650 that has an open service. Or else, you can buy second-hand open service phones. If you find a used Palm Treo 650, you have to make sure that it is working properly. Since you are searching for a mobile phone with an unlocked service, you have to make sure that it actually comes with such feature. In order to do determine this, you can switch SIM cards from different network companies. If you can open your mobile phone, using different SIM cards, this means that it is really unlocked.

How To Compare Any Mobile Phone Deal, Quickly And Easily

By John Bertone

One of the first things you need to know about comparing any mobile plan or deal is to first forget about all the fancy Marketing promotional material that comes with them! To give you an idea of what I mean you have probably seen something similar to: “Sign up for a $79 deal, & we’ll give you $230 worth of free calls.”

So what does this really mean? Well, the first detail I will verify is that $230 worth of free calls means absolutely nothing until you know exactly what you are being charged. The key to knowing how to compare any mobile phone plan or deal on the market is looking closely at the details and read the fine print.

But That Itself Can Be A Problem, Here’s Why

Have you ever noticed when trying to review the fine print / terms & conditions of a mobile phone plan that they are extremely hard to read. They are either: all in capital letters; in large blocks of text (making it hard to read); or so small that it’s not even noticeable.

Do you think there is a reason behind this? Of course! They are doing everything in their power to see that you do not, cannot, or will not be able to read it!

And Here’s Another Problem when Comparing Mobile Deals & Plans…

The sheer volume of mobile phone offers out there makes the whole experience totally and utterly confusing! You find yourself in a position where no matter how many deals and plans you compare – every single one runs its’ own sale pitch about being the best. The result is: that you can quite easily end up selecting one deal over another that costs you hundreds more over the years!

Following my retirement from the mobile phone industry, (after being in it for more than eight years): I decided I wanted to share the insider knowledge I had gained to empower consumers (like you) with a simple way to compare mobile deals quickly and easily, without confusion.

Let me tell you, it wasn’t an easy task! But I am happy to inform you that this special report is now available, and is called “Mobile Phone Secrets Revealed”.

If you’re looking to buy a new mobile phone; change your plan; or reduce your current mobile costs, then this report provides objective information that will help you to choose from the many plans that are currently on offer. It provides you with a simple and easy way on how to compare any mobile phone plan or deal currently on the market like an expert.

Mobile phone companies, with their complicated plans, do not make the task of choosing easy and they do not provide the public with clear information. Instead of just throwing your hands up and choosing any old plan, it is better to equip yourself with the knowledge that can help you to make a wise choice.

So, if you want to be able to compare mobile phone plans in a way that slices hundreds to thousands of dollars off your present and future phone bills, then you owe it to yourself to get a copy of “Mobile Phone Secrets Revealed.”

About the Author: John Bertone is a Mobile Phone Specialist who shows you how to compare any mobile phone deal on the market, quickly and easily. In his special report called: Mobile Phone Secrets Revealed he also reveals how to DRAMATICALLY REDUCE your current mobile phone costs! A True Review Of Comparison Shopping With A Mobile Phone

By Michael Brito

Today, many consumers who make purchases online won’t buy anything until they consult with a comparison shopping website first such as Shopzilla, Cnet.com, or Shopping.com. They understand that comparison shopping ensures that they are getting the best deal around, which is what most value conscious shoppers want after all. However, with today’s social and lifestyle pace being faster than ever, there is a growing need for comparison shopping on the go. Sure, there are laptops and wireless connections all over the place, but the average person is more likely to leave home with their cell phone instead of their laptop. So, the need for comparison shopping using a mobile phone was answered and there are several ways to take advantage of this new technology.

Google SMS

Google recently launched a new service that allows U.S. mobile phone users to tap into its search results via the short message service (SMS) infrastructure. Users send queries to GOOGL or 46645 and receive results on their phones. The service returns directory information about local businesses via Google Local and provides price comparison shopping information through Froogle.com. It also lets users search for residential phone numbers, dictionary definitions and Web search results snippets. Google SMS also does calculations, area code look-ups and ZIP code look-ups. Results usually come within a minute, and are text-based only.

This is a great alternative to wasting gas money and time driving all over the city looking for the best deal.

Frucall

Launched in March 2006 as the first price-comparison mobile service using voice, Frucall allows consumers to compare retail store prices with prices for the same products on Amazon.com and online comparison shopping service Yahoo Shopping, directly from their mobile phone. It’s a simple solution that sidelines many services that offer price comparison results to be sent via text message. Even better, is that consumers can soon buy products directly from their mobile phone, assuming they have registered and have a valid credit card in their profile.

Frucall enables consumers in the midst of examining retail aisles to call a toll-free number (888-FRU-SHOP) and input the product’s barcode. Within approximately 10 seconds, the caller gets a confirmation of the product name and the price of the product as listed online. Currently, the service compares prices for products from a variety of categories available on Amazon including automotive supplies, books, electronics, jewelry, movies, music, tools and pet supplies. There are even features that will allow consumers to save purchase history, makes notes, and reminders.

Lastly, is that Frucall be accessed from any phone and since the results are not returned via SMS, there are no text messaging fees that sometimes occurs with Google SMS.

Conclusion

With cell phones being as popular as socks, and everyone from age 10 to 100 having one, there is no surprise that mobile phone comparison shopping services are taking off.

It is a simple concept that brings tremendous value for consumers who are looking to save a few dollars; and they can now feel confident about making the right purchasing decision, online or offline.

Even after having said this I must inform you that not all cell phones can work as that and you need top have the right software and the network support to run the normal GPS enabled phone to provide accurate information.

Mobile phone GPS tracking is the easiest way by which you can track the location of a person or a vehicle. All you have to do is install the necessary GPS (Global Positioning system) software and then put the cellphone in the bag of the person or vehicle you want to track. Your software will be able to provide you with the accurate readings pertaining to the location of the vehicle or person. This is the advanced technique that is being used by people to stop the vehicular theft and also find new ways of tracking a person’s location. This anonymous way of spying is a covert operation but is something that can be of great help to the people who want to track the location of their vehicles. Mobile phone GPS tracking is the only way to get quick and reliable location related data about a person or vehicle.

The technology of using the Anonymous way of spying or mobile phone GPS tracking is very helpful in reducing the crime rate like car theft. Well, the law enforcement and security agencies can put the mobile phone GPS tracking system and can nab the criminal faster but unfortunately it is not so. The vehicle of the offender is easily identifiable and one can easily gather other necessary information to track a vehicle. This is one thing that can be pt to a better us but nabbing the criminal at the correct location is a tough job and we feel that the police is still not up to the mark with the knowledge about this technology. This technology uses a small box that is generally attached to the car or person you want to track and then send the GPS signal to the mobile phone to track it.

Mobile phone GPS tracking is not only helpful for the security agencies but is equally efficient in serving the suspecting husband or parents to track their loved ones. Data Loss by T-Mobile, Microsoft and Danger

By Gregg Housh

You probably have already heard about the colossal failure of Microsoft and Danger’s cloud system, leading to the loss of roughly 800,000 T-Mobile users’ cell phone information. The unique methodology T-mobile employed to manage their customers information experienced a disastrous failure on October 5th and while questions still loom as to how this could have occurred the take home lesson for all PC users is plain as day : always backup your data properly. This can include a single local backup for standard data or a more complex plan involving local and online ( internet ) based backup for critical information.

Sidekick data was not stored long term on the cell phone itself, unlike the other cell phone models. Instead, data was uploaded to Microsoft / Danger’s cloud : a cluster of many PCs sharing the load of information storage and computing power. Systems like this aren’t all that strange, if you use gmail or flickr you have already got data stored in a cloud. When one PC in the cloud fails, typically there’s minimal to no information loss. If many computers fail, or if the software connecting the PCs has a difficulty, all the data may be lost forever.

Thankfully Microsoft had some backups of the Sidekick information and finally began restoring it to client cell phones on October 20th, 15 days after the 1st loss of data. In the meantime, thousands of blog content, news stories and RSS feeds flooded the Net with bad PR about T-Mobile and Microsoft. The feedback was totally justified as well, due to early concerns within Microsoft the backup information had somehow been damaged or lost in the same event that took down the cloud. The assumption a company with the kind of resources and expertise as Microsoft could have made such a rookie mistake of creating backups that were depending on the same resources or software as the cloud is inconceivable to tech pros.

The cost of this disaster is more than only data loss and bad press, the monetary toll is still growing. Between users terminating contracts early ( without the customary fee ), $100 T-Mobile gift cards being offered to users whose data was lost, and pulling Sidekicks from shelves and internet stores, the final cost could be somewhere in the millions. The cost to customers themselves is unknown, but expected to be just as large. Lost contacts, missed opportunities due to not having the correct phone numbers, and many other problems plagued sidekick users.

Data recovery is a difficult and expensive process, and it’s not always successful. To keep your information safe, whether it’s tax records or footage of your kids, you should always keep a secure backup. It’s a simple, cheap, and reliable step that will help stop multi-million dollar calamities and private heartbreaks, but it must be done correctly. Geek Choice techs are trained professionals who can help ensure that your backup solution is safe, even if your system fails. If you haven’t already, take the time to call us at 1-800-GEEK HELP (433-5435) about backing up your information today.

Websites and Mobile Devices Issues

By Larry W. Crain

Most websites are currently viewable and usable over most mobile devices (from tiny-screen phones to iPads). However, for mobile users, it is sometimes a frustrating experience. Most websites are accessible by mobile devices and will be more so as mobile technology continues to improve and site owners don’t need to do more than optimize their sites for mobile and other hindered-access users. For some in special circumstances, however, the only solution is to create a second, completely different website site (.mobi) for specific groups of mobile users. Following is a discussion of the issues.

There are several issues with viewing websites over mobile phones. These include site complexity, layout, size, navigation and content. We’ll discuss the ways to address these, including having two websites (.com and .mobi), optimizing your current site for mobile and the progression of mobile technology.

1. Issues with accessing and using conventional sites over phone and other mobile devices.

a. Complexity – Normal websites fulfill a number of purposes simultaneously. Among many things, these purposes can include information provision, information gathering, community development, interactivity, transactions, image development, Marketing, fun, aesthetic appeal, etc. It is currently impossible to recreate all of those experiences at the same time on today’s mobile devices. Most mobile users know this and do not want or expect all those things when they look up a site; they generally want something specific, like a piece of information or to conduct a transaction. A website owner should determine the goals of the mobile visitors to determine how best to serve those particular visitors, which may not be easy.

b. Layout – It is impossible to exactly recreate a large website on a small screen. Even if there are enough pixels in the small screen, the page becomes so small it is unreadable, so a viewer is forced to scroll or zoom, which is a pain. In addition, certain structural layout building blocks of websites, such as tables, may show as garbled on a smaller device and end up being confusing rather than helpful.

c. Size – Websites are so large that they tax the network data pipelines and device memories. This is exacerbated when you have page or frame reloads taking place on the website as you use them. This is improving as networks continue to increase their speeds and devices increase their capacities and capabilities, but it is still an important issue, especially with phones.

d. Navigation – when able to see only a portion of a website page on a mobile device, it is hard to keep track of where menus and links are and what is on them so you can efficiently navigate through a site. Even when you can keep track, you are still scrolling and waiting a lot.

e. Content – Certain types of content are data heavy and require specialized software. Both of these are problems with many mobile devices. Media (videos and images) are serious offenders. Flash is especially problematic and may not even show up.

f. Variation in mobile devices – there are many variations of types of mobile devices (screens, operating systems, browsers, sizes, handheld controls, network connections, software and applications) so there is no such thing as one “mobile compatible” fix.

g. Variations in networks – speed, delays, timeouts and other factors vary and can affect accessing and using websites

2. Possible Solutions

a. Adding a second website

i. Second domain name address – creating a second website with a new domain name (often .mobi) is an option many large companies (such as ESPN and Amazon) have taken, with mixed results. As mobile technology evolves, the mobile sites will need to continually evolve or they will become dated in appearance and functionality. A challenge is to promote the mobile site so users know to go there and/or to redirect them from the normal site to the mobile.

ii. Cost and maintenance – this option requires you to essentially duplicate your online efforts by having two websites and coordinating between the two. You should determine the purpose of the mobile site, how it will be accomplished adapted over time and whether the benefit is worth the added cost, time, operational requirements and strategic implications.

b. Optimizing your site for mobile

i. Minimizing media – Critical information should never be put into flash or other software driven media like slide shows. In general, normal websites benefit by visuals; few people like to sit and just read plain text on a site. If you expect heavy mobile traffic, you should skew toward static images, smaller images, and as few of them as you can use without compromising the normal site.

ii. Using easy navigation

1. Make sure menus are static, easily understood and quickly found.

2. A site map not only helps normal visitors and SEO for search engines, but it is essentially a one-page-view of the whole site for mobile visitors that is more comprehensive than the menus.

3. No flash – flash is pretty (on normal sites, for those who have the right software to enjoy it), but there is a long list of reasons it is a bad idea for most normal visitor sites and it is disaster for mobile visitors.

4. Minimizing click-through levels is generally good for all sites, because at every click required you lose another percentage of your visitors, but the percentage lost is even greater for mobile visitors.

iii. Using accessibility options – Search engines can only read the equivalent of “text” content on websites. This is true of some handicapped internet users, such as the visually impaired. For those reasons, there are conventions to make more of the website available without depending on visuals. Those methods, such as using text descriptive “alt” tags in image code also help for devices that are unable to show the visual website components.

c. Mobile technology improvements – all of the following are getting better every month. As these items improve, the mobile user experience gets closer to the experience of the pc user. The smaller this gap gets, there is less of a need to address mobile users differently from pc users.

i. Network and device speeds and geographic coverage

ii. Browser capabilities

iii. Phone capabilities

iv. Screen sizes and pixel resolution

d. Conversion sites – most observers have a poor opinion of companies that claim to be able to convert your website to a mobile version. Some can create the equivalent of an RSS text feed, but it is not really a website conversion and raises, cost, quality, operations and Marketing concerns similar to those listed above as well as others.

Summary:

• The number of mobile users is growing dramatically. At the same time, technology is closing the gap on the differences between mobile and pc users’ website experiences. The major technology players will continue to develop and improve the capabilities of their hardware, software and systems because it is in their own self interest for their customers to be able to access and use all websites.

• Good website design takes into account the experiences of all users, including leading-edge-technology pc users, restricted device/software/network users, search engines, those with accessibility needs and mobile users. Cross-browser and cross-device compatibility is the goal. You cannot develop a website specifically for each of the various devices, configurations, components, software packages and uses out there. And as soon as you did, they would all change.

• Some website owners may have specialized offerings, interactions or users that require them to provide a dedicated second website for mobile users. Those owners should do an economic and operational analysis to determine the best way for them to implement and maintain such a strategy.

• For most websites, the mobile issues are being addressed without you having to do any more than you should be doing with your website anyway.

Pull Technology: Using 2D (mobile) Barcodes

By Pat Munro

Mobile (or 2D) barcodes are the latest tool for businesses in this new millennium. Developed back in the 1990s as 2D or Matrix codes, patterns are formed by black and white squares arranged on a grid which can encode thousands of alphanumeric and other characters in any language. There are no restrictions in size and capacity for these 2D barcodes. They use your smartphone’s camera equipped phone to take a picture of the 2D barcode, then using the appropriate application, you can download information directly to your phone. Some of the names of programs which allow a smartphone to read 2D barcodes are QR codes, Data Matrix, Cool-Data Matrix, Aztec, Upcode, Quickmark, Shotcode, mCode and Beetagg.

What is a Mobile or 2D Barcode?

It is a graphical image that stores information both horizontally and vertically, this allows for storage of up to 7000 characters, meaning much greater storage than the old barcode standard. They are used in conjunction with a smartphone’s camera, and a barcode reader app. Once the 2D barcode is read, you are directed to the business’s web site, and the pertinent information you request. This new technology’s capability allows for any company to improve Marketing and customer satisfaction, with a tap. These barcodes are (or will be) everywhere. 2D barcodes are now appearing in magazines, signs, buses and on business cards. Also, newspapers are starting to include 2D barcodes on stories which links the mobile reader to the latest updates. Some companies are starting to use 2D barcodes to link to their blogs and social networking sites, like facebook, allowing the businesses to access more people and improve Marketing.

This technology is called ‘pull technology’. Meaning that it is a permission based way for a consumer to engage with an advertiser or product. It is gaining a lot of attention because of its non-solicited and non-intrusive mobile Marketing abilities. This ‘pull’ effect offers a direct, accountable way of connecting with existing consumers as well as accessing new consumers.

What Can They Be Used For?

Commonly, the use of these barcodes is to request information or a service from a website. Now, these mobile barcodes are being used by any business to perform a multitude of tasks, including product information, promotions, discounts, purchasing tickets and downloading information and services. Art galleries are starting to implement this technology to obtain information for each work of art in it’s collections on display. Another use for these barcodes for businesses is that any store can advertise products, expirations, quantity, and ingredients with the tap of an app. Barcodes can be placed in store windows, allowing any consumer to see ongoing promotions, menus, store hours, movie listings, and anything else they wish to promote. The advertiser pays the set-up cost of the barcode as well as its operator assistance for per-click, download, view, redeem and sale services.

Who Offers the Barcode Reader?

The act of linking a physical world object to the technological world is called ‘hardlink’. Apple has barcode scanner in their newer iPhones, and Google’s Android OS is now including a barcode scanner in its newest model smartphones. Nokia has a similar system called ‘Symbian’. It is thought that within one year, every cell phone/smart phone device and/or provider will have scanners built into their devices. Advancing the opportunity to scan to everyone.

What Does All of this Mean?

2D barcodes are in the public domain, which means they can be used by anyone without restriction and without payment of a fee or royalty. This public approach gives rise to internationally recognized standards, global interoperability, and creates an economy of scale. This is great for advertisers and consumers alike as both are of the mobile operators’ customers, only one software client is required to read any code. For the operators, this translates to greater choice and more competitively priced equipment.

It seems that 2D barcodes are the missing link between customers and businesses in the ever growing Mobile Marketing platform. Companies today must jump on this new ‘wave’ of technology by allowing the opportunity to add a 2D barcode component to their services. By doing so, they will expand their client bases and create more income to their bottom line.

Mobile Shopping Search – The Next Trend?

By Danny Wirken

Shopping Search on the Internet

Search engines have revolutionized the way people look for information. A huge success in the Internet, search has made people dependent on it that people use search engines to do everything from research to shopping. Shoppers find great deals and stores just by searching for products they are interested in. However, most shoppers find it taxing and irritating to have to enter their personal information for every store they find through search where they want to buy something from.

Google’s new service, Google Checkout, has made shopping more convenient. It furthers the integration between search and shopping by allowing shoppers to buy from different stores using a single Google log in. This means that shoppers do not have to enter their information multiple times just to buy several items from different stores but can opt to “checkout” items they find through Google search. With the checkout system online shoppers will be encouraged to shop even more due to less hassle and the security that Google checkout brings.

Search in Mobile Phones

Shopping search is not only gaining in popularity in the Internet but is moving on to new media as well. In an Article by Jim Hedger entitled The Changing Venues of Search – Search Going Mobile he stated that “It is the users who dictate how technology develops… [and] choose which technologies survive and how those technologies will be used.” According to Hedger people are migrating to the use of Internet capable handheld devices like PDAs and mobile phones due to their portability. Portability is important to users, not just in terms of the devices, but portability of information as well. Because of this, search – the number one way of finding information in the web – is finding its way to mobile phones making a vast resource of information (the World Wide Web) portable.

In a paper by Lisa Wehr on Mobile Search and its Implications for Search Engine Marketing, she said discussed how mobile search has gone a long way from the days when search consisted “solely of SMS (Short Message Service), which provides simple information on weather, flights, stock quotes, etc. based on text message requests” to now being able to give search results from search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL and others.

Marketing in Mobile Phones

Marketers, of course, saw the new opportunities that the improved search that mobile phones brought. With the improved search capability came the opportunity to promote and sell their products and services through mobile phones in ways that are more convenient and attractive to their audience. Mobile shopping, which has been around for sometime already but has been limited by the phones’ technologies has become more feasible. Mobile shopping is now positioned to advance along with the advancement in mobile search and is bound to become increasingly important to shoppers in the next few years.

Making the Most Out of Mobile Shopping

Marketers, however, need to know their audience in order to make the most of the opportunity. According to Wehr marketers should provide services and products that address the basic survival needs of customers before offering products catering to their more sophisticated tastes. The basic needs are, of course, food, shelter, and security. This means that the kind of products and services that should be made available in mobile phone search are food delivery, numbers of hotels and restaurants, weather updates, and email (for personal security issues). After satisfying these needs only will costumers buy things that satisfy their belongingness and cognitive needs then their aesthetic needs. Examples of products that address belongingness needs are ringtones and wallpaper downloads that show of their personality. Cognitive needs are addressed by products like news and research. Aesthetic needs, which is the last in line, includes everything from beauty tips to cell phone casings and other luxury products.

Companies in the Forefront of Mobile Shopping

Many companies understood the customers need for mobile shopping and has been and are answering these needs. Some of these companies are:

Yahoo! – Yahoo launched its beta version of Mobile Shopping last September 2005. Mobile Shopping is just the mobile version of their Yahoo Shopping and enables mobile users to comparison shop for free. However, they still haven’t found means to let customers actually buy products from their phones. The mobile version of Yahoo Shopping only allows customers to compare product prices and access product information through their phones.

Google – Google SMS is a service that allows user to do more than just search and shop. Mobile phone users can get phone book listings, movie showtimes, weather, facts, dictionary definitions, product prices from Froogle, and more using Google SMS. Like Mobile Shopping of Yahoo Google SMS doesn’t allow purchases to be made just yet but offer comparison shopping only.

Amazon and TicTap Mobile – A partnership between http://Amazon.com and http://TicTap.com lead to an SMS service wherein mobile users can search for http://Amazon.com products using mobile devices such as mobile phones and even PDAs. But just like Yahoo and Google customers are only able to comparison shop.

Smarter SMS – Smarter SMS allows users to learn the lowest price of computer and/or electronic devices and parts online. The service is free and is aimed at helping customers inside retails stores figure out how much they could save by buying the equipment they see in the stores online instead of in that specific store.

Slifter – Slifter is both a web and mobile application wherein users can search for products and brands from online and retail stores. Slifter lets users search for products by either price or proximity and shows results which includes detailed descriptions and images of the product and the store(s)’ location and phone number. Slifter also has promos and discounts available for different retailers. To avail of the promo mobile users need to show or type in the promotional code given by Slifter to the product retailer. However, again even Slifter is not able to let users buy directly from the mobile phone but is used for comparison shopping only.

Other companies worth checking out are ScanBuy Shopper and Neven Vision.

Five Tips For Changing Your Mobile Phone

By Past Information

On average, we change our mobile phones every 18 months. Lured by better deals, funkier phones and changes in fashion, we’re ready to discard our new model almost as soon as we’ve read the manual. If you’re thinking about changing your phone or your provider, consider our top tips:

1. Decide what you want

It’s always best to do a bit of research before you walk into the phone shop. Once you’re in there, at the mercy of a sales assistant, you could buy anything. Instead, talk to friends, read magazines and online reviews and decide what sort of phone you want. That way, you’ll be much better prepared when you walk into the store.

2. Contract, PrePay or Pay up Front?

Whether you choose to be on a contract or opt for a more flexible payment option depends on several things: how much money you have, how often you are going to use the phone, how many text (SMS) messages you send, and when you are most likely to use the phone. Contracts come with useful packages that can keep your call costs down, but you sign up for a fixed period. Flexible packages allow you to stock your phone with credit when you have the money available. Again, work out which is best for you before you go shopping.

3. Which Provider?

Do you want to use your phone abroad? Are all your friends on the same network? Are you in an area where one provider’s coverage is better than another? These are all things that you need to take into account when you choose your provider. In addition, your previous experiences with the company, recommendations from friends and the types of packages they have available may also be factors in your choice.

4. What’s included?

Make sure that you know exactly what you’re getting from your phone provider. Packages differ widely across the market and you should make sure you know what your provider should be doing for you, and what you will be obliged to do for them before you sign anything.

5. What about my phone number?

If you can, keep your current number. If this isn’t possible, then try to inform everyone of your new number once you have it. There are services available on the internet that allow you to register your old number so that people who don’t have your new one can find you, which may be the best way of getting back in touch with the people you missed.

T-Mobile Sidekick: Chip Off The Old Block

By Joseph Barrett

T-Mobile is one of the leading cell phone service providers in the US. It has become a popular operator thanks to its customer-friendly payment scheme. T-Mobile has come up with many innovative schemes to retain its top position in the US market. One of such initiatives is the Marketing of the T-Mobile Sidekick. The Sidekick is a multipurpose phone, with great messaging, browsing, and gaming options.

The Sidekick Marketing initiative put T-Mobile in the top spot in the US cellphone market. Now it has launched the T-Mobile Sidekick II, an improvement on the original Sidekick.

T-Mobile Sidekick II retails at T-Mobile stores and can be used with the Sidekick data plan from T-Mobile. Apart from the run-of-the-mill cellphone functions, T-Mobile Sidekick II allows you to use sounds and pictures to communicate with your friend and family with its MMS or multimedia messaging service. The in-built camera puts more fun into messaging when using Sidekick Ii.

The Sidekick II’s AOL Instant Messenger application allows you to IM your friends anywhere. T-Mobile’s application download service can enable you to download Yahoo’s messenger service too. Another cool Sidekick II feature is the Auto Text word completion system which makes it easier to enter words and text on to your handset. It’s a very convenient feature to have if you are a power user of mobile email and text messaging. You can also have email from up to three of your personal accounts pulled in directly into your Sidekick II. With Sidekick II’s embedded browser, you can browse the Web easily. Also, you are just a fingertip away from the latest news headlines, weather updates, games, and ringtone downloads with T-Mobile’s t-zones service.

The Sidekick has many other useful features. It’s got a calendar with up to 1000 event entries, an alarm to remind you of the calendar events you’ve stored, and a to-do list. You can synchronize these tools with Microsoft Outlook through the Sidekick II’s USB data connection or wirelessly through Intellisync technology. The Intellisync Web-based application runs on any PC with a Web browser. With Intellysinc, you can view all photos on Sidekick II as in a photo gallery on your PC. All data is stored remotely.

With the T-Mobile Sidekick II you can send and receive virtual contact cards or vCards. With vCards, you can save and share contact information with friends. The Sidekick II also has a mini-LED flashlight. The Sidekick II also enables you to snap photos and share them with friends through messaging or email or the Intellysinc gallery. The camera also has a night mode for good shots in low light situations.

If you are a gaming fan, the game Rock and Rocket is available with the T-Mobile Sidekick II. You can also download more games through the t-zones service. The handset, running on GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 frequencies, is powered by a lithium ion battery which provides 4.5 hours of digital talk time, and 60 hours of digital standby. It has an internal memory of 48 MB.

Loaded as it is with so many cool features, the T-Mobile Sidekick II seems pretty awesome — much like a Swiss Army knife. But it seems even that isn’t the end of the road. It’s widely rumored that the US cellphone market will soon have to admit a new entrant, the T-Mobile Sidekick III, before Christmas!

Abusing the Mobile Technology

By David H. Urmann

Everything is almost possible with mobile technologies. Yet, the drawbacks include losing privacy, money, and even dignity. The unremitting advancement of technology intends to make life easier but it is also being exploited by some deceitful groups in robbing an individual’s security.

There are always some good and bad effects of technology. Technology plays a significant role in our daily existence–making way of life more gratifying and convenient. However, manipulating it the other way around could lead mankind to inconveniences and troubles.

Pornography

As more and more pornographic videos are out of control, so many are induced to engage in illicit pursuits. Even minors can access them and this makes it more alarming. Parents do not have enough control of the messages their children receive and send as well. Without proper guidance it could influence young persons into formulating irresponsible decisions in the future.

Videos of sexual encounters among boyfriend and girlfriend relationships are common sex-related scandals. Some use the videos to blackmail the other partner. Pornography tends to lower the moral values of a society. Because of the uncontrollable proliferation of such things, society began to accept pornographic videos as a natural form of entertainment. This too causes it to be harder for the authorities to regularized adults videos.

Stealing Money

Robbers have creativity in stealing money. They would send messages informing that you won a grand price. They would then convince victims to claim their price and it shall be processed when they transfer a certain amount of money to the criminal’s account. Unfortunately, there are a lot of reported cases about text scams and the robbers were able to influenced victims to transfer money in their account.

Misleading information

Just as information dissemination is beneficial to many, it is also as damaging if information is misleading and inaccurate. Likewise, forwarding messages that is unverified and half true is destructive. It can worsen an already bad situation and can even trigger irreversible circumstances. Precise information is extremely crucial to highly sensitive jobs such as security, intelligence, bomb diffuser and others. One or more individuals may be killed or terrors may multiply due to fallacious reports.

Reported cases of bomb scares through text messages brought tension to business establishments thus stopping them to go on with normal business routine. This creates paranoia and anxiety instead of better productivity and richer communities.

Isolation

Over use of mobile technology can lead someone to isolation. Without realizing, the constant use of mobile phones lets a person forgets to be present at the place he is in. He can be present with his family but his concentration is not with them. Additionally, it also lessens the person’s span of attention and can lead to loss of focus. This is due to so much information available that one can get.

Loss of Privacy

Technology can assault one’s privacy. This is possible by the tracking device of the network providers. Upon request, they are able to track down the mobile subscriber and one can easily be located by the network. Conversations over the phone can be tapped too making highly confidential data prone to untimely disclosure. This is especially disadvantageous to government’s tactics in protecting the country from promising security threats.

Proper and conscientious operation of mobile phones would yield higher global efficiency and output. But if exploited, it would almost equally generate the same degree of damage. It is no longer a question of how bad technology can affect people. But it is how people embrace it to the society’s full advantage and not to one’s personal interest alone.
