Tips For Finding Great Mobile Phones For Seniors
By Joem Hughes
There is no doubt that mobile phones are a significant part of modern living. These devices have taken over landlines and have changed the way we communicate. A billion dollar industry has also grown with the popularity of cell phones and the services that power them. Carriers and manufacturers have created devices and programs that are fitted for all ages including senior citizens.
When the Jitterbug cell phone was released as a simple device designed for the elderly, the potential of senior citizens as a niche for mobile phone services became evident. In an effort to take control of the senior citizen market, mobile phone carriers launched programs and cell phones for seniors.
It turned out that programs and mobile phones for senior citizens are also beneficial to disabled persons. After all, both groups often suffer from similar ailments such as frail limbs and diminished senses. Let me offer some information on devices for seniors and disabled persons.
Let us begin with ideal mobile phones for seniors. The elderly usually require simple mobile phones because of their condition. They would normally prefer basic phones because these devices have no frills and are easy to use. A complicated handset will only cause problems for seniors and disabled persons because they require more instructions.
Handsets that have large keys are also ideal cellphones for seniors. Senior citizens usually have frail fingers or weak eyesight so a device that allows them, to dial by feel will be suitable for their condition. The keys must also be easy to press so that weak fingers do not have to exert a lot of force. The keys should be also spaced wide apart so that the elderly will be able to choose the correct key more easily.
A large screen is also an ideal feature of a cell phone for seniors. The elderly and disabled will be able to see any information on the device more easily if it has a large screen. Most fashionable or stylish phones have small keys so they may not be the best types of mobile phones for seniors. It would also help if the handset has large fonts that would help seniors see the numbers or letters in the screen.
The size is also a good factor in judging if a handset is suitable for your grandparents. A very small phone would not be ideal; because seniors will have difficulty holding them and they might be dropped too easily. A very large phone would not also be good because it would be too heavy for the weak hands of seniors and disabled persons. The device should have the right size and weight that would be suitable for persons who are 65 years old and older.
Durability is also a trait or attribute that a cellphone for seniors should possess. It should be able to withstand the shock of being dropped several times. Seniors and si9sabled persons are prone to dropping objects so a device that can still function after being dropped would be a good candidate for a senior phone.
Mobile phone service providers also offer services for senior citizens. For instance they offer plans that are designed explicitly for the needs of senior citizens. These mobile phone plans for seniors offer a special cheap price and enough monthly minutes to cover the needs of a senior. Long distance calls are free in these plans to allow seniors to contact friends and family all over the county.
Those are the some of the basic information on mobile devices for the elderly. I’m sure more devices and services will be launched to cater to seniors in the future. If you are looking for a device for a senior member of your family, then you may use these tips to help you find the right handset.

A True Review Of Comparison Shopping With A Mobile Phone
By Michael Brito
Today, many consumers who make purchases online won’t buy anything until they consult with a comparison shopping website first such as Shopzilla, Cnet.com, or Shopping.com. They understand that comparison shopping ensures that they are getting the best deal around, which is what most value conscious shoppers want after all. However, with today’s social and lifestyle pace being faster than ever, there is a growing need for comparison shopping on the go. Sure, there are laptops and wireless connections all over the place, but the average person is more likely to leave home with their cell phone instead of their laptop. So, the need for comparison shopping using a mobile phone was answered and there are several ways to take advantage of this new technology.
Google SMS
Google recently launched a new service that allows U.S. mobile phone users to tap into its search results via the short message service (SMS) infrastructure. Users send queries to GOOGL or 46645 and receive results on their phones. The service returns directory information about local businesses via Google Local and provides price comparison shopping information through Froogle.com. It also lets users search for residential phone numbers, dictionary definitions and Web search results snippets. Google SMS also does calculations, area code look-ups and ZIP code look-ups. Results usually come within a minute, and are text-based only.
This is a great alternative to wasting gas money and time driving all over the city looking for the best deal.
Frucall
Launched in March 2006 as the first price-comparison mobile service using voice, Frucall allows consumers to compare retail store prices with prices for the same products on Amazon.com and online comparison shopping service Yahoo Shopping, directly from their mobile phone. It’s a simple solution that sidelines many services that offer price comparison results to be sent via text message. Even better, is that consumers can soon buy products directly from their mobile phone, assuming they have registered and have a valid credit card in their profile.
Frucall enables consumers in the midst of examining retail aisles to call a toll-free number (888-FRU-SHOP) and input the product’s barcode. Within approximately 10 seconds, the caller gets a confirmation of the product name and the price of the product as listed online. Currently, the service compares prices for products from a variety of categories available on Amazon including automotive supplies, books, electronics, jewelry, movies, music, tools and pet supplies. There are even features that will allow consumers to save purchase history, makes notes, and reminders.
Lastly, is that Frucall be accessed from any phone and since the results are not returned via SMS, there are no text messaging fees that sometimes occurs with Google SMS.
Conclusion
With cell phones being as popular as socks, and everyone from age 10 to 100 having one, there is no surprise that mobile phone comparison shopping services are taking off.
It is a simple concept that brings tremendous value for consumers who are looking to save a few dollars; and they can now feel confident about making the right purchasing decision, online or offline.

The Growing Trend Of Comparing Shopping On Your Mobile Phone
By Michael Brito
We live in a world where we can do just about anything from a computer; chat with people in other countries, trade stocks, visit exotic locations that would never be seen otherwise; rent DVDs, and of course engage in the growing trend of comparison shopping. The Internet is gaining in popularity at an exponential rate and as adoption for broadband increases, so does the opportunity for consumers to compare prices for products and services as they look for the best deals on the web. Based on a recent ComScore study, 55 percent of Internet users now have broadband access at home; and are more likely to engage in online comparison shopping. Even better is that the majority of US consumers also have a mobile phone; and combined, takes comparison shopping to the next level.
It’s no secret that the Internet is the bargain shopper’s dream comes true. It has been for the last several years. For consumers that are concerned about stretching their dollars, finding the best deals, and getting what they want at rock-bottom prices, then the Internet is the greatest shopping tool to ever exist. Why? Because prices are often much cheaper online than they are at local retailers. The only caveat is that consumers cannot touch and feel the products before the actual purchase; a problem now alleviated with the use of mobile phones delivering the results in voice format.
It’s obvious that online comparison shopping is more efficient than pounding the pavement and searching local retail stores for the best deals and prices. However, consumers today still like to touch and feel products before making that purchase decision; a hard task to do through a computer. The fact is that consumers still enjoy spending their weekends at the mall, conversing with friends and family as they hunt for bargains and touch and feel products before buying them. Until these online comparison websites can provide the entire customer experience from beginning to end, they will never capture the full attention of value conscious consumers.
Is there an alternative?
Yes, introducing Frucall; the first voice-enabled comparison shopping service that allows consumers to compare retail store prices with prices online, directly from their mobile phone. It’s a quick and easy solution that sidelines many of the competitive sites that only offer comparison shopping while online. Better yet, is that consumers can soon purchase products directly from their mobile phone.
The way it works is simple. For consumers who are at a retail store browsing for products; all they have to do is dial a toll free number, enter in the bar code; and wait a few seconds for the results. Not to mention that the service is free so it’s obviously a no brainer.
Comparison shopping using mobile phones is one of the latest trends that have catapulted new business ventures that provide consumers with a one stop shopping experience. Consumers can simply dial a toll-free number from any retail location and compare prices of products and services of any type, style or magnitude. And, most of the time, walk away with a much better deal than they would find elsewhere. It will soon become second nature to most value conscious consumers, so it’s only natural that online comparison shopping using mobile phones will become a huge market for Internet buyers.
The growing trend of voice-enabled comparison shopping is a fascinating concept for value conscious consumers who still like the traditional approach to shopping, yet want to save money. Today, with so many of our daily activities performed with a mobile phone, Frucall provides a unique value proposition and adds to that growing list.

The Feasibility of Changing Mobile Phones Frequently
By Jon Caldwell
With people anticipating the next generation of the popular iPhone, Steve Jobbs is set to announce the release of the newer installment to the iPhone line tomorrow at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s conference. The new generation iPhone has been rumored to have 3G capability along with a thinner footpront that is quite nice due to the bulkiness of its predecessor. The new iPhone is set to be released first in Europe and O2 has signed a contract to be the sole distributor of the phone.
Apple also aims to be a bit more strict with regards to having people unlocking their iPhones for use with another provider. They have shown signals that they would be offering contracts that binds users onto a carrier that is locked for a specified timeframe.
One more competitor for the iPhone, the cellphone has a dual interface (touch screen for most tasks and a keypad for SMS) that allows a fell of a more standard cellular phone while having the same touch screen as the iPhone. You can use your fingers or the stylus to move to and fro applications as you browse and switch in between tasks. It also has a micro-sd card slot for memory requiremnts which allows mroe data to be stored onto your phone. Imagine being able to browse between 20 picture in the photo gallery to the 2 megapixel camera that has 2X digital zoom and a small built-in xenon flash that allows quality pictures. It has the makings of a iPhone competitor by design.
Another model, the HTC Touch Cruise does away with the keypad but sports a bigger display with 2.8″ of TFT screen area. With an integrated scroll key built into the 5-way navigation key, it allows better function.
Sporting the same features as the iPhone with it’s touch screen and innovative applications, this may truly be the best of the best competitor that would take a bite out of Apple’s share of the cellular phone market. The phone features a customizable home screen (totally void in all other phones in the same class) and many applications from Sprint that adds more function to the older and more expensive LG Prada – F480 which had a smaller screen. iPhone has created a whole distinct niche in the cellular phone industry with the release of the iPhone and cellular manufacturers have been trying to find a way of getting a bit of the market it has. Though initially a flop, the iPhone still managed to top most people’s want lists and continues to do so, just hope the newer version can keep its hold on the market share.
T-Mobile has filed a lawsuit against Starbucks Coffee which has been using their service as part of their free customer service. In efforts to boost numbers of patrons, Starbucks has been offering free WiFi access to all customers which brought in office workers in droves with the knowledge that they could still keep tabs on the office on their breaks. T-Mobile argues that they had a license agreement to provide WiFi access for all US branches of Starbucks without the addition of the free WiFi access offer, that has taxed the mobile provider heavily in terms of bandwidth.
The suiot comes when T-Mobile learns that they would be replaced with provider AT&T at the end of the year when their service agreement with Starbucks expires. They are claiming that the free service fvor customers was not part of their service agreement but was restricted to office use only. What is to come out of the wranglings of the two companies is yet to be seen as they conduct negotiations and talks to resolve the issue.

Mobile Phone Sim Card Data Recovery
By James Wallis
It is this great dependence that leaves us feeling vulnerable if we experience data loss.
Losing SIM Card Data
Mobile phone companies are always receiving complaints about data loss from mobile phones. Of course, most complaints of data loss are because of losing the device. However, SIM cards are like any other hardware and prone to similar errors and damages.
Some customers complain that after shutting down and switching on a phone, the time and date are lost. Also with the increase in added features like cameras, recording devices etc phones often suffer from “function fatigue”. Sometimes, overuse of the different functions can lead to data being jammed.
Data loss from a mobile phone can occur due to a virus infection, faulty mechanical components, logical corruption, physical damage and, of course, losing the device. Like computers, mobile phones, too, are rather delicate in the way they are constructed and so can be damaged quite easily.
Data Recovery
Data loss is a frequent phenomenon. Computer users and mobile phone users are most wary of losing valuable data. Losing data from a mobile phone can leave people disconnected from many aspects of their lives. The good news, however, is that most kind of data can be recovered. Data can be recovered from different media like windows hard disks, digital cameras, pen drives, memory sticks, iPods, and Mobile phone SIM cards.
There are software available that make most kinds of data retrievable. Text messages that have been accidentally deleted can be recovered using specific recovery software. To recover data from a SIM card, one will need a USB SIM Card reader. The software supports the SIM card of any service provider which makes it convenient. Recovery time in case the damage is logical can be as little as a minute.
Because the cell phone data recovery software is so adaptable, it can be used on Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows ME and Windows Vista and Windows 98 Operating Systems. In fact, so effective is the recovery software that forensic experts use it during their investigations. Further, the software available provides complete backup for the mobile phone SIM memory.
DIY versus Professional Recovery
The whole purpose of DIY recovery is that it is convenient and inexpensive. If data loss is due to a simple logical problem, DIY software may be used to recover data. This software is easily available and the instructions are fairly straightforward. However, this is simple if one understands the nature of the problem.
There is a single precautionary sounding when it comes to digital data of any sort. When, in doubt, it is best to go to a professional. The data we store on our phones is extremely valuable and losing it permanently can create a lot of turbulence. Therefore, if one is not too sure about the problem, it is best to give DIY a miss and pay for a professional.
Professional data recovery services do not always have to be expensive. Especially in the case of mobile SIM cards, service providers will do it for a nominal cost. Data loss due to physical damage can only be recovered by professionals. Here again, service providers may be of help or will at least be able to guide you to a professional.
Backup
It is not only computer users who should back up important data. The premise is the same for mobile phone users as they are equally vulnerable to data loss. It is always a good idea to have a copy of the address book. One should regularly download pictures taken on the camera phone and store separately.
While data loss from a SIM card is not the end of the world, it can be terribly inconvenient. Data recovery from a SIM card is a common process but there are cases when data can be lost permanently. One can, perhaps, even have an old-fashioned address book as a backup to help tide over data loss from a SIM card.
Conclusion
The problem with modern technology is that they are too good to be true. Considering that they have made our lives simpler and more effective, it is but natural that there will be some drawbacks. Unexpected data loss is perhaps the biggest drawback. The next time you use your mobile phone in a careless manner, your SIM card might decide to protest!

T-mobile Carrying Samsung Stripe Phone
By Subha Shankar
T-Mobile has announced it is carrying the Samsung SGH-t329, also known as the Stripe for its two-tone color scheme and its long, white-on-black external display.
This feature-rich, tri-band phone includes an advanced VGA camera, Bluetooth technology, support for T-Mobile’s myFaves service, and much more. The Samsung t329, affectionately dubbed the “Stripe”, makes a powerful, yet affordable, mobile companion. Additionally, with MMS messaging capabilities, a speakerphone, and wireless Web browsing abilities, the t329 is the perfect complement to T-Mobile service.
Design
Inside the t329′s sleek clamshell you’ll find a large, yet crisp and clear 128 x 160 color LCD display with support for over 65,000 colors. The phone’s VGA camera is located just above this display. T9 text entry, which is a predictive text entry technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit–a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the t329, including a voice memo recorder that allows up to a minute of recording time per memo, a calculator with unit converter, a to-do list, a calendar, and an alarm clock.
Imaging and Entertainment
The t329 is easily customized to suit your style. Screen savers, themes, and wallpapers can be set to your tastes, and you can even browse and download more wallpapers from the t-zones service. You can also use the phone’s Bluetooth or USB connectivity to download more pictures from your PC. 7 Tips On Choosing The Right Mobile Phone Plan
By John Bertone
Choosing a mobile phone plan can be difficult due to conflicting and even misleading advertising offered by the companies that are vying for your attention.
If you are not careful you may end up paying much more than you expected and much more than is actually necessary. Here are some tips that will help you to choose the right mobile phone plan, the one that matches your budget and your communication requirements.
1. Take your time. Don’t rush into a plan without knowledge
The billing structures of many phone plans are complicated and it is not easy to see, at first glance, how much you will actually pay if you sign up for one of these plans. In addition to this, you have to weigh the pros and cons of the plans offered by competing companies.
All of this takes careful attention and a bit of research. So, don’t jump for the first plan that you see, delay your decision until you are sure that you have found that mobile plan that is right for you.
2. Match the plan to your calling habits
The key to getting the most economical plan is to understand your own calling needs and to find a plan that gives rates that are favourable to your phone calling habits. Even an infrequent mobile phone user can end up with an unnecessarily high bill if he or she chooses a phone plan that does not match their needs.
To understand your needs consider the following factors:
a. Do you make calls in peak or off peak hours? If you are making business calls, the bulk of your communications may be in peak hours, while if you will be using your mobile phone for social calls you may be able to call in off peak hours. Choose a plan that gives you the best rates in the period when you make the bulk of your mobile calls.
b. Do you make local, national or international calls? If you need to call out of your local area frequently, then look for a plan that offers good rates for national and overseas calls.
c. Do you plan to use voice mail, send SMS messages, receive email or browse the web from your mobile phone? These services are convenient, but some of them, can be expensive. If you do need them, pay careful attention to the charges for these services and choose a plan that gives you good value for special services.
3. Find the plan that fits your budget
How much do you want to spend each month for your mobile phone? How much can you afford to spend? Don’t rush into a mobile phone plan blindly and hope that you will be able to manage the bill later on. In order to understand how much you are actually going to pay you need to first consider what is the monthly cost?
Then check to see how much you will be charged for calls. Are calls billed per second or for 30 second intervals? Is there a connection fee or “flag fall” charge that is added on to each call?
Make a rough calculation of your calls based on your recent calling activity and add it to the monthly charge and you will get an idea of what to expect.
4. Compare the plans of the main providers
Once you have an idea of your calling needs and your budget, take a look at the plans offered by the main providers in your area. Visit the websites of the providers, read their brochures or talk to their sales representatives.
Find out as much as you can about their call rates, billing system, length of contracts, discounts for off-peak and holiday calling and other features of the mobile phone plans on offer. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are not clear about the details of the plans.
5. Find out what your friends and other consumers think about the various providers
A plan may look good on paper or may sound nice on TV, but the quality of the service that is offered by the mobile phone provider is every bit as important as the price. If you do not have connectivity when you need it, then even a cheap call rate will not help you out. If a company gives poor customer support or is unethical in handling billing disputes then their seemingly good plan may not be worth it.
Ask your friends, relatives and colleagues which service they use and find out if they are satisfied. Also, it is good to know which service your friends and colleagues use, because it is often cheaper to call people who are on the same network. If you find out that many of your friends are on one particular network and they are happy with it, then it will make sense to sign up with that same service.
6. Be careful when signing up for “capped” plans
The idea of a cap or ceiling on expenditure sounds like a great idea, especially if you have to look out for your monthly budget. However, many of the capped plans have exclusions or sneaky charges and that might not protect you from receiving massive bills.
The other problem with capped plans is actually not the fault of the phone companies but is the fault of the typical users. When they get a capped plan they think that they will be protected from high costs and they start to radically change their usage patterns. They begin to use the phone much more than they did in the past because they think that they will not be charged for it. In the end they wind up with huge bills. If you are not sure, it is better to avoid these capped plans.
7. Remember, fancy handsets are not free, nor do they cost $1
Many telephone companies offer a free or $1 phone when you sign a contract with them. The newest and most fashionable phones, loaded with gadgets, are not cheap and they are definitely not free. If a company is offering you a deal that includes a free or cheap phone, you will probably be paying for it as part of your contract.
If you really need a new phone or the phone that is being offered, and would have bought it anyway, then go ahead, but just remember that you are going to pay for it.
If you are about to sign-up for your first mobile phone plan or change your current mobile phone plan, then consider these “7 Tips on Choosing the Right Mobile Phone Plan” and make the best possible choice.

Each month, there are countless Americans who are faced with phone bills that they simply cannot afford. In many cases, they are paying fees that they were never made aware of. Many are being charged far too much for long distance calls, as well. This is especially true for Americans who make international calls on a regular basis.
Many people have turned to cell phones in the hope that their long distance costs will be reduced. However, this can quickly lead to overages and ridiculously high bills. Phone cards are another option, but they do not generally offer low long distance rates. Most phone card companies if not all uses cheap carriers to carry their calls. This can lead to consumers experiencing bad connections and with all the fees associated with phone cards such as connection fees and maintenance fees, leaves the consumer with only a few minutes left on a $5.00 phone card.
Is Cheap Long Distance Service Available?
People pay for their monthly phone plans whether they are placing 50 or 500 calls. There is a charge for each long distance call, but there is also a service charge that is tacked onto every bill. Due to these and other fees, most people are not getting their money’s worth when it comes to long distance.
Prepaid Long distance Service
Prepaid plans allow a person to spend money only when he is actually talking to someone. If a person prepays $100, he is going to make use of every dollar that he spends. The prepaid plan doesn’t expire, so For instance, most calling services charge $.18 or more for calls to countries that prepaid calling plans charge only $.10 per minute to call. Prepaid long distance allows a person to place calls from just about any phone. Whether using cellular phones, home phones or public telephones, you only pay for the actual usage or in other words “talk time”.
Prepaid international calling can save people with family and friends in other countries a considerable amount of money. It is also beneficial for people who are traveling. Customers can connect to their accounts through an access number from almost anywhere using any of the 10 phones that they can register on their account. Prepaid phone accounts function in a similar way to calling cards. However, they do not require a pin number to make a call.

Pull Technology: Using 2D (mobile) Barcodes
By Pat Munro
Mobile (or 2D) barcodes are the latest tool for businesses in this new millennium. Developed back in the 1990s as 2D or Matrix codes, patterns are formed by black and white squares arranged on a grid which can encode thousands of alphanumeric and other characters in any language. There are no restrictions in size and capacity for these 2D barcodes. They use your smartphone’s camera equipped phone to take a picture of the 2D barcode, then using the appropriate application, you can download information directly to your phone. Some of the names of programs which allow a smartphone to read 2D barcodes are QR codes, Data Matrix, Cool-Data Matrix, Aztec, Upcode, Quickmark, Shotcode, mCode and Beetagg.
What is a Mobile or 2D Barcode?
It is a graphical image that stores information both horizontally and vertically, this allows for storage of up to 7000 characters, meaning much greater storage than the old barcode standard. They are used in conjunction with a smartphone’s camera, and a barcode reader app. Once the 2D barcode is read, you are directed to the business’s web site, and the pertinent information you request. This new technology’s capability allows for any company to improve Marketing and customer satisfaction, with a tap. These barcodes are (or will be) everywhere. 2D barcodes are now appearing in magazines, signs, buses and on business cards. Also, newspapers are starting to include 2D barcodes on stories which links the mobile reader to the latest updates. Some companies are starting to use 2D barcodes to link to their blogs and social networking sites, like facebook, allowing the businesses to access more people and improve Marketing.
This technology is called ‘pull technology’. Meaning that it is a permission based way for a consumer to engage with an advertiser or product. It is gaining a lot of attention because of its non-solicited and non-intrusive Mobile Marketing abilities. This ‘pull’ effect offers a direct, accountable way of connecting with existing consumers as well as accessing new consumers.
What Can They Be Used For?
Commonly, the use of these barcodes is to request information or a service from a website. Now, these mobile barcodes are being used by any business to perform a multitude of tasks, including product information, promotions, discounts, purchasing tickets and downloading information and services. Art galleries are starting to implement this technology to obtain information for each work of art in it’s collections on display. Another use for these barcodes for businesses is that any store can advertise products, expirations, quantity, and ingredients with the tap of an app. Barcodes can be placed in store windows, allowing any consumer to see ongoing promotions, menus, store hours, movie listings, and anything else they wish to promote. The advertiser pays the set-up cost of the barcode as well as its operator assistance for per-click, download, view, redeem and sale services.
Who Offers the Barcode Reader?
The act of linking a physical world object to the technological world is called ‘hardlink’. Apple has barcode scanner in their newer iPhones, and Google’s Android OS is now including a barcode scanner in its newest model smartphones. Nokia has a similar system called ‘Symbian’. It is thought that within one year, every cell phone/smart phone device and/or provider will have scanners built into their devices. Advancing the opportunity to scan to everyone.
What Does All of this Mean?
2D barcodes are in the public domain, which means they can be used by anyone without restriction and without payment of a fee or royalty. This public approach gives rise to internationally recognized standards, global interoperability, and creates an economy of scale. This is great for advertisers and consumers alike as both are of the mobile operators’ customers, only one software client is required to read any code. For the operators, this translates to greater choice and more competitively priced equipment.
It seems that 2D barcodes are the missing link between customers and businesses in the ever growing Mobile Marketing platform. Companies today must jump on this new ‘wave’ of technology by allowing the opportunity to add a 2D barcode component to their services. By doing so, they will expand their client bases and create more income to their bottom line.
